31. The I-Am-His-Slave-Girl Fantasy.

The female is the male’s slave.

Comment:

In its thousands of variations this is perhaps the most provocative sexual fantasy that a man and a woman can share.

It has something of capture and rape going for it. For example, how do you suppose the woman becomes his slave? But, the relationship is institutionalized and backed up by an entire culture. She has nowhere to go, nowhere to run. The authorities will not free her; they will return her to her master. Moreover, hundreds of women, hundreds of thousands perhaps, enjoy this degrading status. She is only one, of an entire class of human beings. She has no hope of freedom; she must learn to serve, and serve well. She may be bought and sold. She is only property.

This fantasy, of course, answers to the male’s desire to own and dominate a woman; too, of course, it answers to the woman’s desire, instinctive in her, to be owned and dominated by a man. We have discussed biology and evolution in such matters. The problem, of course, is that these desires mingle with many others. For example, the male also desires to respect and love the woman; and the woman also desires, paradoxically, to be independent and free. The strength of these relative desires doubtless varies considerably from individual to individual. For example, interior anatomy differs considerably among human beings. For example, different individuals, of the same sex, may have different size and shape organs, different numbers of valves coming into the heart, etc. If these features were visible, doubtless sexual selection would have eliminated certain human types and, anatomically, we would be much more standardized than we are. Similarly, if there is this much gross anatomical difference among human beings, it seems qutie probable that there is also considerable psychological divergence. We probably differ much, one from the other, in emotional capacities and neurological dispositions. It seems quite possible that one woman might have a desperate desire to surrender sexually to a male and another might not even catch on to what the other was talking about. The more masculine woman, who is more aggressive, etc., of course, should not be permitted to impose her own value judgments, indexed to her hormones, perhaps, on those of more glandularly normal females. Because the more aggressive woman is more outspoken is no guarantee that she is going to talk sense. A gentle female, who desires a man’s touch, is just as worth listening to. Most women, it seems, like men. Let us hope they are not talked out of it by women who, perhaps genetically, cannot understand what it is to desire sexual experience. At any rate, let each woman be true to her own self. Let each not pretend to be the other. Let the woman who hates men or, more likely, who cannot sense their attractiveness, not be placed under pressure by society to pretend to be sexually attracted to them. For example, it seems piteous hypocrisy when certain women, obviously seething with hatred and resentment for men, pretend that they are really sexually normal.
